I'm just going to say this: when people build all-motor engines, it's out of pride. The truth is, making power without boost is pretty expensive. Turbos are the most cost-efficient mod you can do. Sure, you can build some pretty powerful NA motors, but to make the same amount of power with forced induction would cost half as much.

 

Yes most N/A set ups on these motors cost an arm and a leg, speding a few hundred bucks for 10 or 15 hp. But you dont have boost lag and way less moving parts.Talk aboutOccam's Razor huh?

 

Nitrous is more cost-efficient than boost if you aren't going to be racing a lot. Dry kit for 55-75hp for about $460 and then $3 to $5 a pound for nitrous refills.

I gotta say though, I like n/a more than boost now because it might take more money and work but there is pride in it and if two cars, one boosted and one n/a, with the same hp race then n/a will win assuming the drivers have the same skill.

 

You can do budget build LSVTECs that will run low 13s high 12s no problem, but you will need to tear apart the engine and replace all the internals.

 

i'd love to see a semi built ls/vtec cammed with ctr's

 

Ran into a kid at the track one day. LSVTEC setup, Eagle rods, CTR pistons, ITR cams, CTR IM, H22 TB, Ractive header, 2" straight pipes (loud as hell!) running on 20" slicks pulling 13.100s all night long. With a good header he could have had 12s easy.

hmmm,i know it's fast for n/a, but i was expecting a little better times than that. but oh well, all i know is it's about 3+ seconds quicker than mine.
