im not sure if this is exactly right, but if you take a d16b7 block, d16y8 head, d16a3 pistons, and d15z1 pistons and you will get a crazy 17.4:1 compression ratio. its more like 17:1 with the z6 head.

anyways...moral of the story...all d series parts are interchangeable. thats a good general rule of thumb when it comes to building Ds.
Anyone else think that a 17:1 compression ratio is really high?

Heck the Skunk2 All Motor RSX is only 15:1 compression and thats with a extremely well built K series engine!!

d15b7/y8 head/ z1 rods/ and you choice of 1.6 pistons would make for a nice rod strock ratio high winding , high compression(per piston choice a1,a8,dohc zc) screaming 1.5. although not all d-series parts interchange as thought. d15b vtec rods share the same large side as the 1.6's therefore will not work in a regular 1.5. if you have a d15b you can use 1.6 aftermarket rods(sohc of course). also the y7 uses the y8 style cam in which you cannot us say an a6 cam in. as far as y8 and z6 compatability it has been stated that it will work but to note the differences for you guys. the y8 can has thinner intake and exh lobes in comparision to the z6. this may lead to excessive wear if the y8 cam is installed in the z6(rocker pad wear) but im not positive.

Wow thats something that i would have never thought about. I was told a while ago that i have to use my Y8 distributor. Is that correct? Can i use the Y8 cam gear?

yes you can use the y8 cam gear although cam timing will be affected if i remember correctly 4 deg either way. and you will have to use the y8 dizzy(asuming your obd2) you will also have to hack the dizzy mounting legs to allow you to bolt it up(a little trimming).

I would quess that a tuner shop would know this and be able to handle it, right? I know everyone ask this but what kind of hp gains could i see with:
-Z6 Ported and Polished head with 3 angle valve job,
-Y8 stage 1 cam
-skunk2 IM
-62mm TB
and of course I/H/E and VTEC controller

uh huh. thats why its so insane that you can get it out of stock D parts.

to the guy who pointed out that its not all true...yeah i know. general rule of thumb = in most applications. so in most applications D series parts are interchangeable.
