Piston & Cam reccomendation
Hey all
The car is nearing 90k. Runs very good, however: My plan is to rebuild the motor, have the head ported, and upgrade the pistons and cam/springs. Im looking at either the Crower or Zex stage 2 cam and a matching spring and retainer set and a cam gear. I dont know much about pistons, so I was hoping someone could let me know how your piston upgrades are treating you, and if theres a particular cam and spring set thats reccommended.
I have a 99 EX with D16y8. Mods are MSD SCR box, S2 IM & TB, AEM v2, megan header to Apexi catback, Exeddy flywheel, Centerforce stage 2 clutch, short throw shifter.
Thanks much!

I do. Theres nothing Id love more than to dump 3 g's on a turbo and hondata and the whole works, but I already know how to rebuild motors so I figured stick with I know. No F/I.
I wouldn't spend the money on pistons. Just shot peen your rods, mill the head down, and get a crower stage 2 cam. That would get you good compression, a good power band, and not too much cash in the engine.
you can get good deals on pistons and rods for a d series scat makes forged rods for around 300 bucks. honda factory pistons are available in a .25 and .5mm over bore and you can swap different d series pistons to alter the compression ratio to your needs
im running pm7 pistons(dohc zc same as d16a1 pistons). these pistons in your car will net 12.3:1 compression so i would advice you to stay away from them. they only net me 11.5:1 in my engine which is perfect for the cam im running. personally id pick up a set of used crxi (d16a6) rods and pistons and toss them in your block. this combination will yeild 10.1:1 compression and would be perfect for a zex cam either the 105100 or the 105300. just be sure to clay the set up to be sure you wont need to fly cut the pistons. although i will recomend crowers cam over anything else for the sohc vtec heads. as far as how my pistons are treating me............im lovin it
