If the CEL turned ON, then the code(s) should still be stored in the ECU.

What engine do you have?

Are you sure that the original code was read correctly:

Yes we read the code correctly. Both my b/f triple checked it. It did the same pattern 1 Long 2 Short using the method you posted. I have the Helms manual for the 92-95 Civic Ex that I printed up at work last summer...all 500+ pages or so. This morning he checkedthe coolant which was a little low but the idle problem is still there.

I have the 1.6L D16Z6 engine. We did reset the ECU as described in the manual so Iassume by what you're saying that it is still stored in the ECU?

Trapped air in the cooling system could also cause the idle problem you are having. Try bleeding the cooling system as described in the service manual.

If you haven't cleared the ECU since the CEL last turned ON, then the code should still be in the ECU.

By the way, an erroneous code may possibly indicate a bad ECU:

The code was cleared this morning . I ordered an o2 sensor a little bit ago. I know if that isnt the cause it certainly won't hurt as I am sure the previous owner didnt take very good care of the car. I'll have my b/f bleed the cooling system as you suggested. I did read in the manual the other day that it could also be a bad ECU. We're both used to working on f-bodys and pretty much know all the causes for problems with those cars. The Hondas are another story. Thanks again for all your help!!

The fast idle is fine was checked this morning. There is still a pinging noise so my b/f's going to pull the valve cover off to make sure there's not a broken spring.

Ron...hope you can help. Still have the low idle but now have a code 22 for the valve timing/oil pressure switch. Would this cause low idle?

Not sure.

Is the engine oil low or is the low oil pressure indicator light ON?

First, clear the code and run the engine to see if the CEL turns ON and the same code repeats.

Did you locate the engine pinging noise?

I also have a 97 lx. Same issues. Thought I had a bad mount because the idle gets so low the car shakes. However could not get the car to die with brakes or ac running.
