brake lights don't work

brake lights don't work
i had swapped my stock steering wheel for a lighter after market(no airbag) wheel and i had to disconnect the clock spring from its harness to complete the swap. apperently, after i did this my horn, brake lights and hazzards stopped working. i checked fuses, replaced the brake light switch, even connected the clock spring back and still nothing works. i figured out that all those functions work though the cruise control which doesn't work either. My question is, has anyone swapped steering wheels and have had this problem? if you have please help. the last thing i want to do is go to a dealership cuz all they'll do is replace a a new steering wheel and harness and charge me dough i don't have.

Just a wild guess but maybe the absense of an airbag (or airbag trigger) on that circuit causes it to be incomplete or inoperative. Y'know, like taking a bulb out of a string of Christmas lights and then all the rest of the lights go out. That sort of thing.
So does everything work with the original steering wheel assembly installed?

So does everything work with the original steering wheel assembly installed i tried and nothing works, when i get a chance i'll retry and disconnect the battery so everything resets. but i'll have to do that after i put the car back together since it got stolen

possibly a ground wire, that same thing happened to me when we put my stereo in we accidently wired the ground to the wrong spot... the only thing was that it was blowing fuses...
