the d16z6 is vtec, not all of the sohc vtec engines say vtec on the cover. a couple things to look for are the vtec solenoid, a small cylinder on the back of the head on the distributor side, its pretty obvious. also, on the vtecs, the spark plug holes are on the front of the top of the valve cover, vs. the non-vtecs being on the back of the top(at least on the 92-95s).
