Question compresion test help

i have been working on this car for about a 1 mouth. and i did all the gaskets new piston rings new head and maybe some other stuff. and i go to start the car it cranking but backfiring out the carb its dpfi. so i think the timing is off but i did a compresion test and got. 150psi in to and 125 in one and 100 in one .but that was a bad bad test so i will do 1 more later and update but its backfiring out the carb isent that timing.i have to open the choke so dont even look at the compresion readings up their. the main thing is the backfiring.thanks

With it backfiring i would deff say the timing is off. Im not sure if you can get the dizzy 180 degrees out of time on that car. But your number 1 cyclinder should be up when the roter is pointing at the number 1 plug wire.

Idle surge can result from a number of different things. Get a timing gun and set the timing per the Manual. If the idle is still erratic, and motor continues to backfire, than you'll need to look into other options.

what do you mean it "DOES not idle"? Does it idle so low that it won't stay running? Or does it start and then immediately die?

like i have to give it some gas for it to start then when its running as i slowly let off the gas as the rpms go down very low and it stalls. and the check engine light is on but that just need to be cleared. i'm sorry i don't now how to explane it thanks for trying.
