I thought rpm relates to fuel efficiency. does that mean autos get better millage than manual while cruising on high way???

Correct me if Im wrong but since youre cruising at 60 youre not pushing down the gas alot so it shouldnt matter how high the rpm is compared to an auto. Both cars will have youslightly on thegas cruising at 60.Thats why city driving you get less mpg because constant pushing down on the gas. Btw my caris a 99,so its not thatold. Both cars are 5 speed manual so they will be roughly the same. Only way you could get lower rpms at 60 is if your car was a 6 speed like the new SI. But hondas are meant to rev high so 3000 is like 2000 on any other car. Thats why the redlines are like 7000-8000.

Not really. There is a "sweet spot" speed where a vehicle gets it's max MPG. Civics' are usually around 55-60MPH. My Jeep's is around about 25-45MPH. Lugging or idling an engine will reduce the MPG too.

An auto usually absorbs more power than a manual also, so they usually don't get quite the same MPG if they run at the same RPM/MPH as a manual with everything else being identical (ratios, weight, etc.).

its perfectly normal , civics tend 2 eat the revs , u have to rev the tittys off them to get them to hit some good speeds
