Help me decide which civic to purchase for modding
if you are swapping the motor then its no problem, but you have to think of the wear on other components like the axles, fuel pump, injectors, brakes... things that naturally need replacing. When they are worn out also the bill could start to stack up.
Mileage is hard to compare to with a shell of a car. Like if the shell of the vehicle is from florida it'll be in a lot better condition than a car from new england with a certain amount of miles. You have to check rust spots and see if it goes all the way into the frame or not.

Any LSX engine as far as modding goes. That's a Chevy by the way.
If you want a Honda to mod, 92-95 CX hatch, gut, swap, turbo. Doesn't need to be pretty, just make it fast and worry about aesthetics later.
That of course is IMO.

the older Toyotas dont have "lift" which is like VTEC. Its called vvt-i(variable valve timing with intelligence) and works only on the intake side. Its constantly varying the valves and there is no set engagment point so you never feel it.
Theolder MR2s however didnt have VVTI theMK1 had T-VIS, and the MK2 hada similar system, which openend up 4 valves at 5000rpm to allow more air into the engine, and trust me you could feel it when that kicked it, and it was a lot more harsh than VTEC.
my cars a 1.6VTEC and you can feel it whenVTEC comes into play but its not a sudden rush of power, where as the MR2 unit used to kick you in the back, and set off like a train.
