Default How to know when your transmission is going?

I have a 2003 honda civic, ZERO mods, completely bone stock. I was given this car by my father as a kick around car to drive around town when I am not using my BMW.

It has 150k on it, runs GREAT. sometimes, though, my transmission seems to struggle. for example, i'll be slowing down at a stop sign and if no one is there at night and I feel like cruising through it and punch on the gas, the car will kind of lurch and NOT go smoothly into the next gear. like a clunk almost. whereas when I drive other cars, and you do the same thing, it smoothly shifts into a higher gear with no struggle/clunk.

other than that, the tranny never acts up. I am trying to be as careful with it as I can, as I would like this to be my main driver and last me a long time. the car is in great shape cosmetically and all mechanical-wise things are great.. any suggestions? is it transmission fluid or something? or is the actual transmission going. please give me any info you have on this. thanks!!
