RE: I GOT A PROBLEM SHIFTING.....
im not to familliar with autos, but maby it the brake pedle interlock, the thing that makes u press the brake down to take it out of park. im not too sure how this works on an auto weather or not it is in the shifter or the tranny, ill look in my manual and see if ai cant fina somethign
edit:
yah, the shift lock solenoid is atached to the shifter inside the car, you may want to do wat adiction to bass said and clean off all that stuff, and then check to make sure the solenoid actually moves when u press the pedal, and that it moves enough, in the manual it tells u to kinda hotwire the solenoid to measure if it moves out of the way enough

RE: I GOT A PROBLEM SHIFTING.....
well id doubt it actualy inside the tranny... but it could be that lock solonoid on the shifter... maybe its geting old/worn and its not pulling the shaft outta the way which locks the shifter from shifting gears unless the brake pedal is pressed...
but again just an idea....
could try inspecting it with the cover off press on the brake and play with the shifter back and forth and see if it looks like anything is causing a drag or not releasing all the way. which sounds like it might be to me...... might have to remove the shifter unit from the floor to take a beter look at it when shifting thru it... or have a friend move the gears while ya play with the brake pedal same time....

RE: I GOT A PROBLEM SHIFTING.....
Mine is all-clear. Everything on the inside of the car is working OK, including the brake/shifter release mechanism. To test the shifter, take the console off and put the car in neutral, then disconnect the shift cable from the shifter. Try shifting and see if it operates smoothly -- mine does. I took the cable cover off at the transmission end, and it is pretty rusty. I sprayed it down with WD-40, and that seemed to help it some. My conclusion then is that corrosion on the transmission end of the cable is the culprit. I'm replacing the cable and and hardware this weekend. Note that the cable is nicely covered by a flange held on by two bolts, but mine was rusted anyway. Hope this helps.
