what is a "illegal engine" do you mean non-emission compliant? Just depends on emission laws around where you are. I personally register my car in the next county over because you dont have to have emissions over there. That way, im in the clear if the popo question it.

 

you may OR may not pass emissions, depending on your local emissions testing requirements.

just because you have an engine swap or mods without CARB stickers on them doesn't guarantee failing an emissions test.

if you're worried about testing go to your local testing site and talk with officials before making your next move.
