Itsbeen a cold winter and my fuel economy has been terrible. I got a 2003 civic LX with 38000 miles. I'm only getting 22 MPG right now and I can't figure it out. Engine runs great, tires good pressure even wear even, air filter clean and I do my oil change less then every 2000 miles.Any suggestions?

I drive a 97 LX sedan and I get about 32 in the winter and 38-40 in the summer while driving a combination of highway and city.

Here are some of my gas mileage tips:

accelerate/brake lightly- If you see the light is red or turning red, coast to it while remaining in the gear. don't downshift until you see yourself timing the light to hit the green Not only does this save your mpg's it conserves the life of your brakes and your tranny over time as well.

I double shift, I go from 3rd to 5th with one complete motion. I don't clutch separately for 4th gear. I hold down the clutch and go from 3rd to 5th quickly and smoothly.

I lowered my antenna all the way down to reduce the drag resistance. I also keep my car's exterior washed and waxed to help ever so slightly.

Keep the car clean and clutter free inside, too much garbage can lead to excessive weight.

I keep my tires inflated higher than suggested in the manual. It's a bit stiffer, but helps a lot.

And I also removed the resinator box under the hood to get better more crisp air flow.

Making sure your essentials are covered and replaced as necessary such as the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, wires, etc. Those make a huge difference.

So thats all, drive safe out there and enjoy the mpg's and good luck.

antena haha
what does double shifting do (honestly dont know)

^LOL
replaced O2 due to failed smog. Jumped from 28-30 MPG to 38 MPG. like money in the bank. At $3.11 a gallon It should pay for the O2 after 4 months in gas savings. Wheeeeeeee
