problem
My 96 ex is having some problems and i dont know whats going on. its a 5 speed, and when its in neutral after the car starts to warm up a bit the rpms jump and then drop back down to idle and keep going up and down and up and down. i also had a overheating problem but that was resolved with a new thermostat. if any of you know whats going on i would appreciate the advice. thanks.

Well, if you have a DX, then you can get a gauge cluster from an EX civic and I think it should swap perfectly. At least, that's the case with 92-95 civic DX's

Rancidgore, CLICK HERE. Its a list of stuff to check when you have idle surge. Since you swapped out the thermostat, I'm guessing that you've introduced air into the coolant system, fairly common problem. Did you bleed the system after you refilled it? If not, do so. If the surge continues, check the things in the link above
