Default Problem Starting

my friend has a 94 ex i think (auto) and when he starts it he needs to pump the gas to keep it running but only when he first starts it. he had the fuel pump replaced in the summer thinking it was that but it did not make a difference. he does not have the money to take it to a shop so i told him i would ask around. could it be the fuel injections? cost to replace? easy? any help or ideas are appreciated

Pumping the throttle pedal opens the throttle plate to increase air intake not gas delivery to the cylinders.

How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?

Any CEL codes?

im not sure i havent talked to him in a day but knowing him i would guess he hasnt replaced the plugs or rotor and i know he hasnt replaced the wires. do u mean hooking the car up to a machine to check codes or just dash lights? i dont think there are any dash lights on but again not sure. since the throttle opens the throttle body (yeah i should of thought of that) do u think his air filter could be dirty as hell? but wouldnt that cause it to stall all the time not just starting? again thanks for the help
