On a side note, these cars are impossible to find at junkyards!

This is true. And when you DO find them, they're picked pretty clean already.

Just for the historical record in the event somebody comes here searching for a way to open the door on a 2000 with the child door lock engaged -- open your other door just enough to see and bend the last 1/2in. of a 0.020 feeler gauge to about a 30 degree angle or wherever it fits. Carefully work it between the panel and the windlace and you can just snag and lift the child lock. Study the angle and approach on the door that works (if you have one).

Just spent a 1/2 hour in an "oh crap" moment trying to figure this out. If you have an inflatable "Easy Wedge" that helps a little, too, but isn't totally necessary.
