Redlining is for ricers.
That's funny.

Actually, I think the best thing to do is shift at the lowest RPM required for normal driving. It will help on gas, and normal engine wear.

If you want to really get going, do it the right way. Find out what RPM gives you the maximum torque/HP, and try to not rev past that.

Example is my car: 2002 Si. 160 HP at 6XXX Rpm with 132 lb tq at 5000 RPM. So I try not to shift over that, as it will not generate more pulling power. If I need to go fast (non-freeway), I never shift above 5000, as I will not get any more torque...

okay thanks guyz i wuz wondering because my friend mysteriously destroyed his 94 accord seemingly from just daily driving. He had me under the impression that it is best to redline every gear.
First, kick your friend in the *****. Then tell him to never drive a car again. THEN, start shifting at normal RPM's and you and your car will live a long, meaningful life.

Does your friend live in St. Louis? Because there's an Accord in my neighborhood that drives in 1st gear at 28mph or so. If that is your friend, I'm sorry, because I will castrate him.

People who drive stick for a very short time tend to do that. Redlining all gears is a sign of an inexperienced driver who is actually scared of shifting or tries to minimize shifting and therefore wear down the engine... I'm actually teaching people to drive stick at my school now charging $20/30 minutes...not to redline is the first thing I tell people...and than hit them if they don't listen...

LOL, might as well tell them to redline every shift cause if they are stupid enough to learn stick at $20/30 mins.....

Don't get in the habit of shifting down too far below 3,000, as it will actually put MORE wear on your engine than higher-rpm driving (due to the lack of low-speed oil pressure).
