Default Stereo questions

I really want to install some new steroes for my 97 civic coupe EX,since the stock ones sound so ugly, but i have no idea what to get.

I have a Kendmore KDC-MP242 Deck, with stock stereos.

I'm on a really tight budget, probably looking less than $200(unemployed ATM).

I'm looking for some stereos that are significantly better than what I have right now, and for a good price.

I'd love some subwoofers but i doubt i can fit that into my budget with the stereos. I believe theres 6 speakers total inside the car?

Replace the speakers first. Anything other than stock speakers would sound a lot better even with the stock deck. There should be 4 speakers-- one in each front door and two on the shelf under the back window.

Yeah definitely replace the speakers.

Pioneer is a pretty cheap, decent brand to go with. I have some cheap Pioneer 6x9's in my hatch and they sound great on my deck. And if you're looking to get a little more power out of your speakers, depending on your skill/knowledge/budget you could also invest in a 4 channel amp. I'd hit up craigslist for everything. I got two 10" alpine type r subs in a box for $200. Brand new one sub would have cost me $150. Good luck!

That sounds like a good idea. Though what confuses me is the small speaker right next to the windshield, horizontally across from the mirror. Are those actual speakers at all? And should i replace those aswell?

As for the rear speakers, do i need to go from the trunk to open/replace them?Or can i just popup the grills and then replace the speakers like that?

I have no experience with this at all, and i am hoping this will give me some good hands on experience about cars.
