basically they're locking the brakes up entirely so the car can't move at all
also, adding ammonia to the ground/tires before starting helps with the smoke thickness & quality

ah ok my friend lets go over a few things
this is done with a RWD car which is rear wheel drive
it is done using a line lock
which locks up the front tires so the rears can spin
this is done on drag cars usually to burn out so they can get there tires nice and sticky
