Well if you've got a D16y8 in your car you already have VTEC! Got one in my hatch with a Greddy turbo kit, and its great! Back dated the electrics to OBD1, had it custom tuned and its a fun ride. I'd say throw another y8 in. Toss some h-beam rods, forged pistons, a good set of headstuds in it, and get yourself a quality turbo kit. Have it tuned and go have yourself some fun.

True. Then the driver is a D-bag who is lonely, has no game, and looks goofy. He thinks that the cars looks will grab up girls.

mwahaha, JP.

You can't beat free! You should build and boost that thing. And if your ever at the track, just tell people you have a SOHC. They will think your slow. Fun stuff.

I always like the part where you beat them and they ask what's in it and you tell them a 1.5 or a 1.6 sohc. Their face is priceless.

How much is it to do all this + rebuild?

and will i need to upgrade my rear drums and king springs, or are kings ok?

NA and turbo engines have different characteristics. Depending on how and where you drive, one might make more sense over the other.

Suspension and brakes is a pretty universal upgrade regardless of the engine. I'd start there if you've not already invested some money into it. Also consider weight reduction.

NA and turbo engines have different characteristics on a road course. A properly assembled turbo setup will have next to no real lag, especially with hybrid turbos like the extremely popular t3/t4. Given that it'll have next to no lag, I see no reason a turbo civic can't be a perfectly civil street car. Now, if a civic is fully built and trying to spool something like a T72, I can see problems happening with turbo lag while trying to drive from stoplight to stoplight.

Also, I'd like to point out that the D16y8 has a relatively low naturally-aspirated power ceiling. Honda engines are engineered quite well, and as such, don't respond well to simple bolt-ons.

Word. 2000 Front is really getting too common and it doesn't look better in anyway.

In for pics.

pfft id personaly go d16z6 you can get that motor for practicly $500bux! some good lsd. forged internals. and mile head work and a nice turbo kit. iv seen thoes motors go 400 Awhp on a sc61 yes i said ALL WHEEL stock internals with just headstuds. you could build a d-series turbo that would destroy a well built b-series with $5,000.00

Before people go wha??? AWHP 91 ef?

They took the drivetrain from a wagovan.

why not do a b16a2 swap and build that up with new intake manifold, headers and a 2.5 inch stainless exhaust.

engine, tranny, ecu etc. - 1300
skunk 2 intake manifold - 300
greddy stainless headers - 300
greddy stainless exhaust system - 700

total: 2600

sources : jdmenginedepot.com
skunk2.com
meganracing.com
greddy.com

that will leave 2400 for tuning, engine mounts, wiring harnesses, short ram intake etc. but that's a pretty good set up. You may be able to find parts for cheaper on ebay. Also you could sell your D16 for extra cash
