Purchasing a 01 civic 5 speed. Test drove it and everything runs good and strong. Suspension is good too. The only thing that worries me is the car has 170,000 miles on it. Going to take it to my buddy's shop so we can give it a thorough check. What should I be looking for guys? I am new to the tuner world!

 

The D17 engine is not a good candidate for simple bolt on "tuning." The whole engine ought to be swapped out if you want to make the car noticeably faster. In stock condition, it's a good daily driver car though.

Mostly you want to see maintenance records, and look inside the engine for sludge. If the oil was kept changed, the engine can last a long time.

 

I didn't mean to actually "tune" the car. I plan on using it as a DD and that's all. by tuning i meant that the car is an import and I am out of my element with those cars. Now my truck, that's a different story! But back to the topic, I plan on using the civic for DD and I just want everything to be running in top form like it rolled off the dealership lot. Or if there's anything I can do to help it run a little better. thanks for the help.
