I'm in the process of looking out a new civc (96-00) 1600 vti here in the UK. After stupidly buying a real heap of a 93 civic that ive just sold i want to be careful this time - it cost me a lot of cash! What sort of stuff should I be looking for on a 98/99/00 b16 engined car - both on the actual car and in the service history? Are there any things i should get done immediately after buying the car anyway?

I guess the basic's really, look at the entire body, check for rust, check the oil level and color, ask how often and where he serviced it, check the milage, take it for a test drive

 

I would thing the biggest thing that i look for is take off the oil fill cap and look inside, if its all clean than it was taken care off, if its all black then dont even bother

 

look for sludge.

 

for after you buy the car it depends on when the guy remembers doing stuff last, if he cant remmeber all the fluid changes and such,i would flush everything and start off fresh and keep track it it from there, check the timing belt and see how its doing, check spark plugs, air filter...if you buy it from a dealership they might have all the records
