Addiction2bass truck project thread
o well i plan on painting the whole frame next year sometime when i pull the bed off and swap the rear end for the one i have that is a gov locker unit. i was hoping to put it in this year but since im REALLY TRYING to be smart with my money and not let bills pile up again so im taking it nice and easy.
hell i just spent another 35bucks for wires to hook up my compressor and rear view mirror.
i just finished wiring up my compressor and bolting it down in the bed on some quick fabed up rubber pads but its still abit to tight i think so ill have to look at what kinda rubber isolators i can find to use. if you guys have any suggestions or where i can buy some please advise.
right now i have the compressor and tank all hooked up to a quick relay and switch so i can turn it off. i still have to buy another gauge and afew small adapters to hook up the gauge on the main air tank. im hoping i have no air leaks but im not sure so i dont want to risk the compressor keep kicking on with the truck off.
i would like to get some electric valves and a dual air gauge to so i can view and adjust the helper bags inside the truck. but again im trying to be easy on the stuff i dont need right now and just get the basics worked out.
tomorrow ill wire up the compass and temperature rear view mirror. i have it on the windshield already so now i just have to run all the wires for it. 4 wires, power ground, and the two wires for the temperature sensor to put in front of the truck right behind the grill. ive already bench tested it and it works great!

ok well 24hours after installing my temperature and compass rear view mirror... ive already pulled it out.LOL
only because i got a slightly better one!
the one i had was from a OBS 98 suburban but i went back to picapart today and found a NBS 2000ish chevy 1500 truck that had a mirror. at first i just wanted to make some money to buy it and sell it.... BUT after i tested the mirror out in my room i found out that its display is larger than mine because it shows both temp and compass display at the same time. and since they are both the same electrically
i just unscrewed the mirror and swapped them out and plugged them in.
before the old single display compared to the NBS mirror.

and the new NBS miror. ( and just so you know OBS stands for Old Body Style, and NBS means New Body Style
)

best of all guess how much i paid for the rear view mirror??????? i paid $2.59 for it. pocketed the wire pigtail and temp sensor for it
tho i did pay the 2 bucks to get into the yard so like 5bucks.
i love picapart and pullapart. tho pullapart is better. one 1buck to get in PLUS they keep track of there vehicles online and have email alerts so i can go right after i get a email telling me a new car of my choice comes in!
picapart is just a MAYBE youll luck out and see something new you like and hasnt been gutted already.... if you wait a few days then chevy trucks and hondas will be GUTTED!!! and so far i havent gotten ANY honda parts from picapart. and pullapart hasnt gotten any 96+civics in about 6months at least
i try to ****** up any parts i can make some money on or use myself... anything i can to help modify or pay for modifying my vehicles.LOL
ive only been to picapart and walked out with nothing ONCE.LOL

ya im trying to sell the other one now. 70-80 bucks sounds good for it
since they sell for 70bucks on ebay with sometimes the pigtail wiring on the mirror but not the sensor.
you want one
you can wire it up to any vehicle. just need a windshield mounting tab.LOL

well another day of work. I FINALLY got the right overdrive pulley for me truck and another day diggen thru the junk yard found me a good buy and a good find
got me a nice electric trailer brake controler and a OEM GM rear brake plug for a total of 9bucks, 7bucks for the controler and plug plus the 2 bucks to get into the yard
but still a killer deal!!!!!
and someones is PISSED they lost there craftsman 1/2inch ratchet and craftsman 3/4socket. LMFAO
i almost got a full set of wide fender flares for a s10 BUT some other guy walked up the same time i did and was looking at them also so i just said o well and let him have em. i was just gonna buy them and put em on ebay but o well.
i have noticed quite a few of the new cars on the yard was all the cash for clunkers yellow spray painted motors with signs on them saying they are trash.LOL
but none civics.
guess they know civics arent clunkers.
most clunkers where mostly stock tho
but i always find something to walk out with.
and ya i already bought a brand new brake controler the same model and everything. but i bought the brake controler for my dads motor home so since does not have a display on it so he just has to guess and feel if the trailer brakes are sliding or not enough brakes. so this unit should help him out great since he uses the same controler in his 2000suburban.

my first overdrive pulley that was not small enough for me so the new pulley i got was more money but is a billet aluminum piece definatly ALOT lighter pieces.

so ya i have 2 of the medium overdrive pulleys now sine they screwed up the second time and sent me the same pulley just spray painted black. he blamed it on a new person working there. 3rd time was the charm and i got the small one like i asked for.

heres the stock pulley compared to the billet overdrive pulley.

so far the charging is good at a stop light now. still not great only 13.8 or 14.0volts but i blame that on the dual battery setup since it only charges a solid 14.4volts rarely...
and yes i really need to clean the engine bay!

o man went to junk yard again. and they have a NICE truck sitting right behind the rear gate with my same wheels on it... i tried to get them for 200bucks tonight BUT they guys manager is being a jerk and said no i have to wait... knowing my luck the guy is going to pull them off the truck tonight himself and keep them
but im taking a chance and HOPE nobody does and they will put the truck out early tomorrow. they already have a huge area ready to put the gm cars so im hoping they will put it out fast since i am going to be there before they open up and HOPE they bring it out fast.... and i can score them pretty cheap... if they stick by the price listed it will cost me 160bucks.... or if they are jerks they will pull the wheels off and list them inside the checkout area for 300bucks or so... i just hope they are not jerks!
they are worth ruffly 500bucks. i hope to buy them and clean them up really good and slapping on some winter tires to the worst looking set of wheels i have.
i dont want to sell them tho. they are the best looking stock wheels for my truck!
but while i was at the yard i did find a few more homelink systems. i found 3 of them that where built into the sunvisors and a few other small things. i believe i have enough of these homelink systems now to play with.
i swear this cash for clunkers is turning up some great looking vehicles in the yard... but still a huge waste by the goverment! but so far im getting some good parts from it tho.

super score today. i gave another guy at work my hours and took today off.... day off WELL USED!!!!!
was at the yard before they opened and luckely the fork lift operator guy was very cool and when i asked he grabbed the truck up and dropped it off infront of me. i quickly as fast as i could busted off the lugs off and asked him again when he drove by to pick it up so i could pull the wheels and he did.
so i scored big time! and i only paid 80bucks for the wheels and tiers. even tho i told the guy last night i would give him 200bucks for me. they lost out for waiting. but i saved money so it worked out great for me. i also bought the front bench seat because it is in great condition so ill probably use it in the bed sometime.
i also bought the tailgate off the stepside truck because i can make some money off it quickly.
and it turns out my wheels are in worse condition then these new wheels. so i will be switching the tires over and getting some winter tires for the rusty rims to keep these good wheels cleaner longer!

my current wheels on the truck rear side.

not tan to match my interior BUT still a nice clean seat!!! i couldnt pass it up!

and the tailgate i hope to double my money with

i paid a total of 150bucks for it all. super score!

well a bit of progress.
went back to picapart afew days later than last and as soon as i was getting ready to leave they brought out a truck with these sport wheels in decent condition... and I HAD TO GET THEM... so that was my 2nd spare set. i got home and my dad said WHY....LOL i just laughed. i paid the 82bucks for the whole set. spent 5-10bucks for some wheel cleaner and about 10-20mins cleaning and using some rubbing compound to clean the little bit of surface rust off the wheels and 2-3days later i sold em for 230bucks without the center caps since he didnt want them. so that profit was NICE... it paid for my 1st spare set of wheels the seat i got and other misc parts.LOL
nice score!

they all shined up great! that was the worst wheel there that cleaned up great in just a few mins. the guy that bought them was happy with them for the price and im happy he was happy.LOL and he did get a good deal on them. i just got a killer deal on them first.
id love to find some more sets at my picapart to clean up and sell for profit. would help pay for my other toys for the truck!
but onto the work done.. yesterday i changed out the spark plugs with some E3 spark plugs. suposed to give better gas milage so ill put em to the test... my truck needed new plugs anyways so i decided to try these out and see if they actually help any. tho my plugs looked like they had way to big of a gap and they didnt look to pretty so im sure ill get alittle gain just from the right gap size.
but no dirty plugs from burning oil or any other bad debri on the plugs so thats great! my old truck had some really dirty plugs from oil burning. so defiantly a plus knowing the motors in good shape!!!!!
and more work i got done was i built up some side boards so i can put all my tools and everything to the sides to clear up the center of my bed to help haul stuff alot easier.its only a start right now so please dont criticize to much.
im going to pull them out again and undercoat the whole thing and then cover it with the same tan cloth fabric i covered my subwoofer box in that matches nicely. and im also going to get more of those rubber floor mats to put down in the bed to keep the bed from getting scratched up any worse.
i would have liked to have the side boards alittle larger BUT since i haul full sheets of wood at least a few times a year i decided to keep the boards just even with the wheel wells which will fit a sheet of mdf nicely and clear. might be tight with my carpet covering them but time will tell. im going to try it tho. but will be a week or two before i order the carpet.
but holds all my typical junk nicely.
2 socket set tool boxes air compressor and tank mounted in the bed, spare serp belt, rope, multiple tie downs traps, tire iron, small sledge, towels orange cleaner water, tarp, gloves, fold out seat, O HELL I GOT ALOT. LMFAO
i thought i would have alot more room for other stuff BUT dang i shocked myself.LOL i might have to build a box upfront to hold any extra stuff out of the way... ill build it at least 3-4inches off the floor so i can still haul sheets of mdf and such lumbar i need.
and i know my cuts arent to good around the wheel arches... i was just free handing the cuts and my jigsaw blade kept cutting sideways instead of straight threw. but once i paint and carpet it you wont notice it so im just going to leave it since its no big deal.
from this mess to more organized and cleaner looken.

and my helper bags still need to be cleaned up more.... i just ordered a VIAR DUAL NEEDLE air gauge so instead of 2 gauges ill just have one in the back. i also want to have 2 other switches for the fill and dump. i still have yet to order the paddle switches but those should clean up the air switch setup nicely along with the dual psi gauge.

so getting better. but still making progress but i am doing good. keeping bills pretty much paid off so thats a huge plus for me. so slow isnt so bad of a thing.
