Scott's Ek Build: Shaved and Tucked
Go to harbor freight and get one, super cheap. The one I got is $90 with a coupon that's in like every magazine. I didn't want a 220 just because then we would have to wire in a 220 outlet, and I'm not doing any extreme welding, just tacks, spot, and stitch welds. I welded a lot in high school, I'm really good at smaw, decent with mig, and terrible at tig. So after I'm done with my autos classes I'm taking some welding classes, mainly tig. Tig welding aluminum is an amazing skill and is so useful and good money. I can weld in my own roll cage once I can tig too.

Yeah I think i might just buy one when I need something welded.
But i've never taken any welding classes, but really planning on taking some classes next fall semester.
will have to check it out when i go to harbor freight.

Pulled the head off today. I would put up pictures but I need to go to bed, have to work right away tomorrow morning, going to be a fun 10 hr day. I'll put pics up right away tomorrow. Head looks decent but might need a rebuild, my valves on the exhaust side don't seem like they are sealing all the way. But the pistons look nice, not much carbon build up. Going to port out my intake manifold and head out a little bit, as well as sand off all the casting marks on the manifold off and get it smooth and shineyyyy.
I'm starting to get myself worried that I'm going way over my head with this, and that I won't be able to get it all back together. So I'm going to have to prove myself wrong I guess.
z0mg that was my 1000th post

Everytime I start a mini project with something that has to do with a motor i feel the same way. It always helps to do things that keep you motivated. It should work out as long as you dont cut corners and stay cautious. Don't doubt yourself man. Keep it up.
K well I don't feel like putting up pics of the engine taken apart right now. I do have pics of m intake manifold from my new iPhone 4
. Had a friend hot tank it for me at his dealership, it isn't really a tank, more of like a self washer sprayer. So the outside isn't perfect, he is going to run it one more time for me but this time go for the top of the runners because they are still a litle dirty. The plenum is absolutely spotless, and the runners are pretty good too. I'm probably still going to paint it aluminum so it always looks fresh.

Just need the top to look as good as the bottom does.

Tried out my welder today and what every says is true, the wire sucks. Just spatters, so I will b e going to Home Depot probably tomorrow and buying some Lincoln .035 and upgrade to the .035 tips, this should make a world of difference!
Dropped my engine out of the car today, was insanely easy. Hooked the engine up to the engine holder that goes across from fender to fender for fwd cars and just lowered it on to a dolly and used my friends engine hoist to lift the car over it. I'll get pics up tomorrow, they ar eon my iPhone.
I have one problem right now htough, started pulling the bolts that hold the trans on the engine, and one is ungodly tight, it is insane. Doesn't seem normal, I even tapped it with my Snap On impact and it didn't budge, I didn't want to sit on it with the impact though. Any thoughts?

I seen your pics on fb, the trans bolt can sieze and be a little pita but hit it again with the gun or use a breaker bar. its because the bolt is a different metal than the block and also it builds up corrosion from then thermostat housings when it gets opened and the fluids drain and get into the bolt hole. but you will be fine just put a little more stank on it
Well my impact wasn't doing anything, would've been nice if I could do it at work since we run like 150 psi. So I used a pipe and made a 4 foot breaker bar. Bolt started turning out for a little bit then snapped so I've got some to drill out.
a good snap on gun should brake it loose no problem. as for cheater bars, i use mine daily, crescent wrench + 12 inch pipe = alignments made easy for the weak. good luck drilling it out, i tryed it with my disk brake conversion, and some times it just dont work.
