Are you going to put a baffle in the catch can? Otherwise, there is almost no point to it since it is just a can with holes in it.

Hey now, it's always function over form. :P

I've been doing research. Essentially, you want a wall separating the inlet and outlet, with steel wool or something at the bottom, so that the nasty gasses hit the wall and drip down, getting caught in the steel wool, so that it doesn't enter the outlet. I'm planning on putting a drain at the bottom as well. I'm really unsure if I'll be using the rad overflow for that, but, it's a possibility. Oh, and the airflow must go through the steel wool. The only thing I can see happening is droplets of oil hanging off the steel wool and getting sucked into the outlet... What the hell!

I've lost my catch-can anatomy link...

I understand and yes, you do want a baffle of some sort. Steel wool is better than nothing, but you would need to replace it/clean it every so often of course. You could always make a drain with a hose going to your oil pan, too!

I haz a catch (baffled of course) that I can sell to you if you want.

You're a fiend!

I'm avoiding spending money that isn't going towards getting my b16 rebuilt lol. Sorry!

Speaking of... I'm gonna try taking in the block today. We'll see what happens.

Hahaha. It is functional and doesn't look like a random OEM canister thrown in the engine bay!

That's true. I'll keep it in mind when I am looking for one. Thanks!

Lugged the block into the shop. Found a place that didn't talk to me like an idiot and didn't try upselling me.

He'll call me back and we'll see what the damage is... I'm half excited.

OEM baby. I almost have everything for my head now. I got back from holidays and the machine shop hasn't even taken the block apart for inspection...... Disappoint. He says it'll be apart on Monday so we shall see. If I understood the whole checking clearances with a micrometer, I'd rather do it myself.

So I picked up this turbo for around $100. I can't find much info on it, except that it might be from an old Volvo. All I know is its a t3 Garrett AiResearch.

Seems rather cryptic.

Alright so the guy at the shop got back to me on my block finally. Said it would cost about $800 including labor to rebuild it. I'm providing some of my own parts to alleviate some of the cost.

Rods and pistons are being re-used. He said the cylinder walls should be alright, no major scarring, just a hone needed. He wanted to use Clevite bearings, I asked for ACL race bearings instead, he said alright. Hastings rings are being used as well. I ordered an OEM block gasket kit and pieced together a top end gasket kit as well, might as well get all the parts I need now.

Parts should take about a week. Once I get the seals in, he said he will start on the crank... I'm hoping he hones the cylinders in the meantime.

I'm not too certain on re-using the pistons, especially if I'm going to be seeing low levels of boost, but I don't know... My power goals have dropped to around 250hp. If I decide I want more, I'll build an LS block and install a hydro trans as well. I'm wanting to keep the stock compression ratio.

That turbo is just a standard T3 turbo by the way. Internal wastegate, 5 psi. I'm thinking that when I rebuild it, I should put the bigger compressor housing on it from my eBay turbo...? Thoughts?

Really thinking I should make a thread on D-Series like the rest of you folks. Lol. Or something.

Not me. I am not a fan of that site.

As for the turbo, I have no clue.
