Default Help with fitment

I want to buy an intake for my 00 d16y7. What would be the ideal upgrade to get more power out of the engine? What kind of HP should I expect to gain from an upgraded intake?

I used the search feature and i am getting confused. Will a D16y8 be an upgrade? Thanks

Here is the answer to your first 2 questions:
Click Me

Now for your third question:
Yes swapping to a y8 will give you a increase in hp. The y7 is a SOHC engine, and the y8 is a 16 Valve SOCH VTEC.
You should do a "mini me swap". It is where you put the y7 block and y8 head together to bolt on about 21hp gain.

Here is a the full write up and DIY that a person did on a mini me swap of d16y7 to d16y8 swap

Ideal upgrade? Its different for everybodies setup. Do you want to spend less than $500 and get I/H/E, or do you want to take it a BIG step further and turbocharge your car? Its a big expensive project that will give your car some unseen downtime and that might be hard if its your DD for work or school, so i guess ideal would be up to you

Yeah I work full time and go to school at night so I was looking for a weekend project. Can I put the y8 intake on the y7 head? Or do I need to do the mini me swap? I am pretty mechanicly inclined butI think the swap is too far over my head.

the y8 has the side mount throttle body and the y7 has the vertical one, so no it won't fit, but you can swap over the y8 IM/TB onto the y7 and that will give you some gains, and then the y8 intake will fit. The mini-me swap will also give you some good gains as well, and its not TOO big of a project so that might be a good idea for your DD.

Correct me if I am wrong
IM= Intake Manifold
TB= Throttle Body

Those seem right to fit about what flip is talking about

So if I buy a y8 IM and a y8 TB they will bolt onto my y7? Will the throttle cable hook up ok?
