Muffler Installation ???

Iiight im lookin to get my muffler put on... but if i cut the stock muffler off the pipe aint long enough so someone told me to get it cut then from where the stock muffler is clamped run bigger pipes(2.25" or 2.5") or w/e from there back and have them weld my muffler(i have the muffler) for the one pipe and a weld on muffler what u think they charge me??? he said it was cheap... anyone know?? thanx

ive been putting on stock about 30 years -hate to say that i am that old.
never a weld.
never was used years ago - dont know why someone would want that.
if you do - you gonna have fun down the road.

could be cheap (to weld) - if you know the place; and you are in boston?
there are adapters to get any length and size you need.

can that band clamp be wrapped around the pipe with it on - or is it put on an end and slid down (in other words, does it open up ?) ??
