Well if you have regular paint on something that is in direct contract with the engine it could bubble up or worse "could" catch on fire. I stress "could".

But for stuff that is farther from the block it will just discolor over time from the heat.

well im not to sure....... cause ive seen ALOT of car shows that paint thier engine blocks and i havent heard them say anythinga bout high temp paint.....

looks to me just like regular autopaint.... BUT not in spraycans.... always painted with profetional paint guns.....
ive wanted to pull my motor/tranny setup in my civic for awhile and paint it black after trying to sand out a few imperfections in the block for extra show points.... BUT unfortunatly i just dont have that kinda time to pull everything and do it.LOL

BUT for anything besides the header and engine block i dont see a problem with using standard paint....

it's best to just be safe and use high temp because of the chemicals used

Ok, I have a 97 Hatch and REGULAR FLAT BLACK is your best friend. My father has taught me 2 use it under my engine bay and it works perfect. I Would use it on the block tho. I dont car what anyone says becuase he has been using flat black and all his cars. 49 ols, 67 shelby, etc... No ****, regualr flat black paint it fine, just use a little more than heat temp paint. Trust ME

that's because flat colors don't have a gloss element to them, making them harder to break down and bubble under high heat situations. if you want it done right and not worry about it again, i suggest high heat reason being that that's what it's made for, parts under high heat. (i.e. engine bay, exhaust)
