if you do end up pulling them appart, take a sheet of sand paper to the led's. This will fog up or cloud the led's output and make it dimmer while still leaving useable output.

mainly with leds in the cluster since those little films are very little tint.LOL

i did that in my truck with some cleared gauges and WOW it was very very bright.LMFAO
preaty blinding with em flashen!!!! my friend drove my truck one time and he stoped using the turn signals down the road cause they where to bright and flashen.LFMAO

one thing that WILL HELP... DONT POINT THE LEDS STRAIGHT........... put them at a angle so the led lites up the sides inside and reflects around so its alittle dimmer... BUT if thats still not dim enough for you just solder in another resistor inline... say 470 resistors....
just put it inline with the power wire and it should dim it down nicely...
