i used a dremel tool to do mine. but be careful not to spend too much time in one area or it will look like ****. or you could sand it down and paint. up to you.

getting the paint off is usually really easy, you can almost just tell the paint to get off and it will, but polishing it is tough. it is made from very cheap aluminum and will require a lot of sanding and then hope you dont sand more in one area than another or you will get waves in it. my advice would be to chrome it.

i tried polishing mine with a grinder but used the polishing wire wheel instead it worked great but then i started getting waves in it and it was damn near impossible to get it perfect so i said screw it and painted it
