you must have a 7th gen... right? mine has the same locking mechanism.

yeah its a 7th gen. I wish they got rid of that locking boot and just had a boot like other foreign cars such as audi where there is a catch on the shift stick to prevent the boot from sliding down.

to make my boot go lower after i cut it, i just rubbed the nubs on the threads of the shaft... (sounds dirty) and it worked good.

I apologize for thread jacking but if anyone has a stock shift boot that they want to send my way let me know ill trade for a blue leather momo shift boot.

i notice some complaining about keeping the shift boot up, there's a really easy way to fix that. Just put a zip tie under the top of the boot, it wont slide down because the stick gets wider as you go down. It will hold the boot up without you being able to see it.

That is how i have mine. Never had any problems with it. I am using this ****, and I love it.shift ****

Just because it is for a prelude doesnt mean it wont work on a civic, right?
