my uncles a CHP as well... he told me the cop wasnt allowed to ask you to pop your hood like that if he really had no reason to pull you over. Just cause you're in a "RACING" car, they like to assume ****. I really dont understand the legal system at all. They pull you over if your car is too loud, but if you dig deep enough they say that the sound shouldnt be any more then 95 Db, or is it like 98? well whatever,... those two numbers are seriousely LOUD if you ever heard that. The exhaust i had before wasnt nearly as loud and yet, they still liked to tail my ***. But i've gotten away with alot since they see that I'm a girl. One thing that pisses me off is how these american cars can be so loud, yet there are no laws over that. When we buy our performance parts we make sure the box says street legal, carb approved, just for these damn cops, but they really dont care.

Yeah like has been said NEVER let a cop look at anything not in plan site without a warrent. They are assuming you don't know the law and are then going to bend the rules. I mean what can they do arrest you is the worst case right, then all you have to do contact a lawyer for unlawful detainment.

Just depends on the cop though. I know one building a 72 Corvette with like 600 Hp and Nitrous, he loves fast cars, so he cuts imports slack even they are as he says "lawn mower engines"

diggin this one from the dead....

I got a ticket for loud exhaust and tinting. 236 bucks.

went to the ref to have my exhaust tested, I thought I would pass easily, actually 11 db over the limit, but he still passed me because he thought my car sounded good! That's pretty much unheard of in california, but I'm happy... oh wait a second! I called the court and they said it didn't matter if my car had an exhaust certification or not I'd still have to pay the fine. Only way to get out of it is bring the paperwork to the judge and they can dismiss it, OR THEY COULD DECIDE NOT TO! It's pretty obvious to me that this whole thing is just about state revenue, not about the safety of citizens. Why else would they allow shops to install illegal window tinting or illegal exhaust systems? I can't wait until I get pulled over for my hyperwhites (DOT approved), then the officer can bitch about my FIPK which is CARB approved but I dont' have the sticker because the previous owner of my car didn't put it on. At least my headers have the CARB # stamped on em.
