Default Anyone have experience with repairing LCD's?

I was gifted with two dead monitors. Both are decent ASUS monitors that got "killed" by lightning. The LCDs themselves are good, but the power surge came through the video cables via a laptop docking station. The damage is limited to the main board. I dunno if you can just replace that one blown diode or not. I'm sure it's easier to just swap the board but sourcing the exact one is nearly impossible and I don't know how interchangeable they are.

how sure you are that just one diod is fried?

It's not difficult to replace, and the boards for LCD screens are pretty genereic (you might lose the button functions).

It powers on and stuff works, it just won't accept video input. There's a pretty obvious exploded component on the main board between the DVI and VGA inputs.

This is the board in question. The failed component is at the bottom just right of center.

Turns out this is just as complicated as I imagined. After hours of research, I have learned that the failed component is a transistor, not a diode. It's a very specific one, and as best I can tell it appears to be a BAV99. Though I don't understand the significance of the markings on it. And there doesn't seem to be a standard so it's almost impossible to know.

You're looking in the wrong part for the standard... the standard is the LCD panel and the two cables leading to it (could be three if backlight is separated out). Any image board for that size LCD will drive it unless it's made for something exotic. I'm sure there are many dropped or otherwise damaged monitors on craigslist of same size...

Oh, believe me. I have searched Craigslist... nada.

I'll look around ebay a bit more. Gotta have one to fit the native resolution.
