FI cars depend a helluvalot on getting the exhaust outa the car. Restriction in the exhaust system limits both the amount of boost you can run and the quickness of the spool. Cams MIGHT net you 15hp... changing from stock downpipe to a 3" downpipe and no cat can get you almost 30hp and increase the the efficiancy of the turbo. With boost instead of putting in cams all you have to do is up the boost to get more power than the cams.

Berz out.

like the other guy said first things first. you really dont need cams on a stock motor. and cams + cam gears insalled would cost more that 1g. ok say you bought a top of the line stainless header ($400-600+) plus a top of the line stainless exhaust $500-700+ plus install for your civic where do you see the big differnce ??????? and who the hell wants a $300 muffler shop exhaust on a $35,000k evo??? not me!!

ALSO AMS HAS THE WORLDS QUICKEST, FASTEST AND HIGHEST HP EVO SO I WOULD BELIVE THEY KNOW THERE ****!!

IF THEY DYNOED TUNED HIS CAR HE PROBLEY HAS A PRINT OUT FROM THE TUNE ASK HIM TO SHOW YOU IF YOU DONT BELIVE

AND YES HOW SWEET IT WOULD BE IF NA HONDAS COULD GAIN THE SAME KIND OF POWER FROM BOLT ON"S LOL

Well i don't pay labor for anything i can do. I could install my own cam and cam gear, hell i could prolly take the cylinder head apart and change the valves, springs, and retainers. I couldn't do a P&P and machine the valve seats however. And im almost positive they didn't dyno it cause there would be no point. However, i think that AMS's prices are a little bit too high. $1000 for an exhaust installed? I could buy an exhaust for ~$500 and isntall it in my garage in an afternoon. And about the $300 muffler shop exhaust, wats wrong with running straight 4" exhaust tubing? I know a kid with an STi thats gonna do that.

well nice parts that give real hp cost money, what muffler shop do you know that has a mandrel bender and 4 in stainless tubeing and flanges in stock. and no body would do 4in mandrel exhaust for $300 any way you might get a 21/2 in steel exuast for that. ok thats cool if you want do do your own labor. (but not always a great idea when it come to interal motor work) but mabey he dind not want to do the labor or did not have the time or equmiment. ok $500 plus a $400 headder for your civic you know he has a litel thing called a down pipe

plus even if you put the cams and gears in your self how much do you think they cost ?? not saying its not worth doing just not at this point.

and what do you mean there would be no point to tune his car??

What would the point of paying a butt load of money to tune your car when all you have is an exhaust. Usually you tune after you have a bunch of mods or major mods. And i got a friend that got an used evo exhaust for like $300. And yea, i can't do internal engine work thats what the machine shop is for. That kid is a dumb****, he couldn't install an intake. And cams would cost like $400 or $500 + whatever it is for the cam gear. So cams can get done for under 1k but i get how the exhaust would give you more power. But on N/A engines, usually you will get more HP from cams, which is what i was thinkin.

Installing new cams requires you to remove the stock cam gear, so installing a new cam gear shouldnt cost more if youre getting the cams (or cam in my position) installed, as theyd have to remove the stocker anyway.

you are right on the labor part but you still have the cost of the cam gears

good cams and cam gears are going to cost you at least $900 for the evo

and your tuning is the singal most importent thing no matter what stage you are at with any motor. you can the all the money in parts in a car you want but without proper insallation and a good tune you ant got **** !!

You are absolutely correct. Tuning is everything. On a high performance car you can tune for anything....like a new air filter lol.
