ive been thinking...would it be practical...
to design a two stroke engine to propel a drag car? i mean...there are four disadvantages to a two stroke engine really...they wont last as long, two stroke oil is expensive, they dont use feul efficiently, and they pollute a lot more than a four stroke engine...but if you're only taking four or five drag runs every other week or less...wouldnt it be practical?
i mean...they're cheaper to make, easier to maintain, more lightweight, and have a much higher power:weight ratio than 4 stroke engines do.
just a thought.

interesting... keep going, that would be cool now that you mention it... too bad that i have NO money to progress with that idea. and plus you would have to have a pretty big 2 stroke engine... i am pretty sure that some transit busses use 2 strokes... try getting your hands on one
im deffinately sure there are some transit busses and other big vehicles and machinery that use 2 stroke deisel engines...but im just thinking that theyre cheaper to make, make more power, are lighter, and have less moving parts than a 4 stroke.
They also have no torque which is why nobody uses them. 2 stroke Outboard engines are being replaced with 4 stroke now mostly because of pollution and noise. the only thing they are good for now is weed eaters.

No torque? I disagree. Ive got a 2 stroke 140 Johnson on the back of the family Grady White. It would jump ahead of a 4 stroke 140 johnson. It gets up to speed faster too.
two-stokes are more poweful becasue they can have rpm's out the *** so in the top end there good and powerful. However you put it in a heavy vehicle and what you have is a gutless noisy hunk of metal. They do get up to speed fast and that is usually becasue the vehilce they are in are extreamly light. Heres how i could break it down i own a yamaha banshee with a 2-stroke motor that thing hauls *** and sucks gas. My family also owns a Honda Foreman(utilty 4x4) ATV now if you were to take the banshee motor and put it in the Foreman you would not move and you would eventually toast the engine. So its just a matter of how big the engine is and how light the vehicle. I would guess someone has probably already tried it and ot probably failed. Hell if you havent noticed evan 2-stroke weedeaters are dieing out, here in oregon theres starting to become alot more 4-stroke weedeaters very much of the same dynamics. And as far the ATV aspext is concerned one of the last 2 stroke bikes(banshee) will be getting discontinued this year for the simple fact that theres teccnology out there that can make a 4-stroke be better then a 2-stroke in all aspects anymore.

there is such thing as a 2-stroke deisel. thats what drives a LOT of train engines and big transport busses.
Here is a company that does dyno testing and tuning engines. If you have techno savy you might be interested.
