Still searching for a new car.....
I sold the Si because 1) My moms insurance consultant would only put liability on it for me, if I were to stay on her plan. 2) With only liability, if I crashed it during this winter, since it couldnt grip the road at all, even with brand new tires, I would be screwed. 3) If it got stolen, again screwed. Plus it was my daily driver, and to be completely honest, I probably brought it above 3500rpms like once a month. After getting 2 tickets in one week, I couldnt afford to be playing around too much in it. Thats a big part of the reason that Im not looking for something really fast now.
My Mustang is a 99. Just a boring v6, the only good thing is that its a convt. and its still too cold here to use that feature. I have once since I sold the Si. And still, the Mustang gets even worse traction in the rain than the Civic. I probably shoulda waited until winter was over, but atleast they have full coverage on the Mustang.
Im gonna go check out the Impreza on Saturday. The guy told me I could take it to any mechanic I want, and my uncle that owns a shop (specializing in imports) is like 20 mins from where the guy lives. Even with the couple mods that my Si had, it was probably about the same HP of the stock car. The guy didnt tell me the mod list, just that it was at about 200. And if its not true, then Ill still have a good base to start on right?
O and about buying another Si. I dont like the 02-05 Si's. And I went to a Honda dealership yesterday to check out their new Civs and Accords, and went inside to inquire about a new Si. The guy told me if I put my name on a waiting list, it could take anywhere from 2-6 months. I filled out the thing to be put on the list, but Im trying to find a car before then. Plus, Im pretty sure my mom would say no.
Thanks for everyones advice!!

I've never heard of RSs (non-turbo model) being modded, but I've never looked into Imprezas too deeply. However, if he's got in N/Aed to 200hp, I imagine it's already about as modded as it's gonna get, which would mean you would probably need to swap in low compression pistons for much (if any) type of boost. I think the WRX is the more common built/modded platform because it already come turboed, and is DOHC, rather than the RS which is SOHC. However, the RS does have .5 more liters of displacment, unless you got the STi model which was the same displacement as the RS, as well as DOHC.
An interesting fact though, the RS gets about the same gas milage as the WRX, even in town (the EPA rates the RS at 21/27 and the WRX at 20/27). However, I imagine the cost of insurance for the WRX would offset that.
Do ya homework. Gl.

a 200 horsepower Impreza (if that is the case) would have plenty of grunt compared to most civics.
and, yes, you CAN mod imprezas but the aftermarket is really big for WRXs because that's what tuners prefer. still, you can do the typical cold intake, hotter cams, turbos, catbacks, bigger wheels, etc.
here's a Garret turbo kit specifically for the model impreza you want: http://www.turbo-kits.com/impreza_turbo_kits.html
but be careful with PSI. too much boost and your piston rods will be eating a hole into the bottom of your crank case. but that's a concern for all turbo mods.
actually, the first thing I would do is upgrade the rim size from the standard 16s to 17 and get summer sticky tires, for tenacious grip, but they don't work so hot on ice and snow. lol.

hmmm i was just thinking, if your mom has the mustang on her insurance, then why not convince her to let you sell it and get either 1) another SI like the one you had, or2) a new SI when you can get one. but that would cost alot more. and take a lot longer.
And i know what you mean, a lot of people dont like the 02-05 SI's some find it looks like a mini Odyessy, but i personally love them and would take one(preferably a TypeR) any day

C'mon people, she said she didn't want fast right now, why are we talking about turbo kits?
For what you want, I think an Impreza would be a good idea. Just make sure this one doesn't have any weird problems. I get the impression that Subarus hold their value pretty well (not sure if that's actually true).
also, I drove an STi the other night, and it was pretty awesome

I've heard that the interiors aren't so great, but it was dark and I couldn't tell. Seats were nice though.
