This discussion here might help you out. It's the only promising thing I've come across and I've been looking for over a half hour now. Sounds similar to what your problem might be, be sure to read the whole thing as the person starts going into detail about how the problem was fixed near the end.

I'm at a loss myself, I used to do PC repair and whatnot but that was like 10 years ago and I haven't really kept up with it over the years. Just hope whatever I can find helps you out.

Ok i am at the point where i am updating drivers on my computer, Windows now recognizes the remaining drive space as unallocated space in Disk management, i can partition it and assin a drive letter to it, but i just want it all as one drive to prevent headaches in teh future.. aparently the guy in the link posted above just updated his drivers and voala it was done.. but i dunno for certain if he meant that he could partition it. or if he meant that it showed the entire drive

Well in that guys case he already had the drive partioned, he was just trying to get it to show the entire drive and partition after a reinstall of XP. Would you be adding a second partion or be doing the first partition? If the drive is already partitioned and you'd be adding a second partition I'll have to look around more and see how you could get it to be just 1 big partition. If you haven't partitioned it yet as long as you add a single partition for the whole HD it should work (tho I'm kind of assuming theres already a C parition for it?).

Edit- I guess I'm not understanding the problem maybe. Some possible solutions would be: reinstalling XP and partitioning and whatnot during that whole process (and I'd suggest getting a version of XP with SP2 and updates already on it), adding another partition for the whole drive (you should ae able to do this), searching for a way to add the rest of the unallocated space to the primary partition. Again not really understanding the problem I guess.. is it just that the ~130 or so GB is partitioned but the unallocated space isn't? Don't really have a solid solution for this one.

I'm off to work now tho, I'll try to answer/find answers for anything you haven't figured out when I get home.

Well right now it shows taht 127GB is partitioned and that 171GB is unallocated space, i can partition that and add a drive letter to it, but i wanted to have everything as one big partiton, i do have a copy of XP that has SP2 with it... so i guess i could start over again and use that copy of XP. but last time i used that i had nothing but issues with that copy of XP.. and that is my legit copy, my non legit copy works 100 times better then the legit version...

for now i guess i will just partition the unallocated space and then say screw it. cause i don't feel like going through the entire installation rtight now... maybe someday when i am bored out of my trees.

Just an update, i managed to get windows to recognize the rest of the drive, but i had to partition it and asign a drive letter. i also was able to get it to recognize the IDE and SATA drives at the same time. Thanks for the input guys

Glad I could help, hope my comments helped you figure out your solution.

Well once i did have SP2 installed aparently i was able to partition the remaing space of my hard drive, but for getting it to recognize the IDE and SATA drives, i had to go in my BIOS, and i found a section for choosing primairy hard drvie boot, and it defaulted to the IDE, even if i set it as slave, so i changed it to the SATA and all was fine
