Default "Lights On" alert sound not working or dome light

My girlfriend has a 2001 Civic EX, and the alert sound that comes on when the headlights are left on stopped working, and the dome light doesn't come on when the driver's door is opened. The light comes on when the passanger door is opened however... Does anyone have any ideas on this? I have a haynes manual but I cannot find it in the book. I assume it is the trigger, but I don't know how to check it.
Thanks!

dont know about the alert thing; but there are switches that turn the dome light on when you open the door. since the drivers door is usually opened much more than the passenger's, that switch would tend to go out. dont know exactly where it is, but open the door and look over the area that the door closes onto, and you should find it.
but after you take the switch out, you have to electrically check it to make sure it is defective

I fixed it. I was looking toward the front of the car's door jam, and it was in the back. One of the snaps broke off so it fell in. I managed to fish it out and it works fine now. Thanks!
