Default 164k on an original timing belt

my friend just told me she has never changed the timing belt on her 02 civic ex that she bought at 60k and now has 164k. I'm wondering how this is possible, maybe the owner before her had it changed?? Anyway I wanted to know what would happen if that guy came let go, would that destroy the whole motor or would she just have to replace the belt?

Thanks guys

Jordan

Replace that sucker ASAP.
No one would want their engine to be torn up all cause they delayed on changing the timing belt.

REPLACE ASAP.

Timing belts are good for about 70K-100K miles. If that belt breaks, the engine is 99% guaranteed toast. The pistons will slap the valves around and it'll be cheaper to just buy a used engine.
