It's my sons car, he says it was running fine, then all of a sudden it won't go into any gear, not even park (car acts like its in neutral in all gears). The shifter moves, and gear indicator moves on the instrument cluster, but doesn't engage transmission. Slight grind when going back into park. Tranny shot? Shift solenoid? Any help is appreciated.

 

Was there fluid on the ground when this happened? I blew out a transmission cooler line and leaked all the fluid out wayyy back in the day. Trans wouldn't move the car despite what I put the gear selector in. I'd suggest removing the trans fluid drain and fill plug to see what the fluid looks like first. After that, I can't help too much.
