Default 1997 Honda civic ex gas gaudge doesnt work :(

It would just stay on the Full the whole time

There were times that it rarely "worked" properly but within 5 mins ot would just go back to full mark

I have automatic transmission if it helps.

So you fill up, the tank goes to full. Got it.

This may sound dumb, but how many miles do you normally put on the car before filling up again?

Sounds like a float gauge issue in the fuel tank, or a cluster issue.

Unplug the wires at the gas tank (accessed by removing the bottom cushion of the back seat). The gauge should then go to empty when you turn the key on.
