What kind of mileage does it have? It's possible that the timing belt jumped a tooth, but it's also possible that the ignition system (distributor, plugs, wires) is old and worn out.
I had the spark plugs and wires changed some time last year. I'm not sure how often you're supposed to change them. The mileage on the car is around 215,000.

if you had the spark plugs and wires changed, you're in good shape there. Next 2 things on the list would be to get a timing gun and see if the timing is off and secondly to check out the distributor.

I'd agree it sounds like a timing issue to me.

Wires could be bad again. Some aftermarket wires are of very poor quality.
