2001 Civic A/C Stopped Suddenly-Compressor Still Works
#13
Thanks for pulling the diagram, Ron. Diagram shows the old type with thermal protector in series with the clutch, and only one wire connected to the compressor. But the manual posted shows the newer type with a separate thermal protector with it's own plug. I think with those the thermal protector is wired in series with the pressure switch in the low-level control part of the circuit. OP will need to examine the car to see which type is actually in use.

You need to test your protector with a meter first and make sure that's really the problem.
Try swapping the relay next, seems likely that's the problem. Any further troubleshooting will require an inexpensive volt / ohm meter.

Compressor is bolted to the bottom front of the engine on the driver's side where the belts are. Follow the metal line that goes over the engine near the driver's side fender and has a screw cap test fitting on it. The bottom end of that line is connected to the compressor. It may be hard to see from the top with the power steering pump in place. But you want to find the top of the compressor because that's where the thermal protector is. Though if you have the protector with separate plug I don't think that's going to be the source of the problem.
