2012 Honda Civic sedam humming
I am working on my son's 2012 Civic and noticed a loud whining/humming noise above starting around 20MPH. First I thought the noise is caused by the tires, so I replaced the tires. Noise still there. I raised up the car on air and checked everything and all looked fine. Shook the tires checking for bad bearing, and all tight. I placed the car in gear and let the front wheels spinning freely at low RPM, and it was very quiet. However, when I drive the car, a loud whining noise started around 20MPH. I also drove the car in circle counterclockwise and clockwise, did not hear any noise. I could feel the humming in my foot pressing on the gas pedal. What could it be? 100K miles on the car. We owned it since 40K miles and always kept up with maintenance. 6 months ago I replaced the passenger side CV axle with an aftermarket CV axle. Could this be the culprit? Thanks,
Update: Replaced the front right bearing and noise was gone. Bearing had no play, and looked perfectly fine, but after I broke it down, there was 10mm pitting on the bearing track causing it to howl...
