89 civic si wont turn over
i bought this car ran great for a month then one morning wouldnt start. when i put the key in it sounds like it wants to turn on but just wont turn over what could this be? any help would help thanks tom
Winter temperatures are battery killers. If the engine cranks very slowly, then the battery is probably on the way out. Start by charging or replacing it. Clean the battery electrodes and connectors before reinstalling.
I understand. The starter is fine as the engine is turning over. The next step is to determine whether the problem has to do with the fuel or ignition system. Start with the former by turning the ignition key to ON without cranking. You must be in a quiet location. Listen carefully in the rear of the car for the low humming noise of the fuel pump for a few seconds. If you don't hear the humming, then the main relay or fuel pump is bad. If you hear the humming, then next test for spark at the plugs (ignition). Pull one of the plug wires and put a
spark plug in the end of it. Ground the plug on a convenient metallic engine part and crank the engine. You should see a bright spark at the end of the plug if the ignition system is fine. Post the results of the tests in this thread for more feedback.
