hatchback si that sputters sometimes when goin through the rpms particulary at 3k. but it will change if u restart the car. it only does it in one spot through the rpms although this spot changes everytime i drive it. sometimes u gota give it a lil gas to start in the mornings. think its a old fuel pump???

 

Drop some seafoam or lucas fuel cleaner in your tank and crank case. That might clear things a bit. If it keeps up, check the fuel relay for good soldering and continuity. That was my issue with my 91 d15. Fuel pumps are one of those things that you can really only place a finger on it with certainty once it completely fails. Good luck

 

yea the only reason i thought it could be the fuel pump is because my friends crx's fuel pump got weak and u had to turn the key and prime the pump twice before starting his. then he put in a new fuel pump and solved the issue.

 

Running cleaners in the crankcase on a high mileage engine is a bad idea. You have this thing called an oil pickup which has a rather fine screen on it. When you run a solvent based cleaner all the gunk ends up in your oil pan and gets sucked onto this screen. Take a guess what happens when your oil pressure drops.

 

How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor? Have you inspected them?

Have you checked the ignition timing?

Is the LED on the ECU blinking any codes?

 

ok ill check the ecu as soon as i get home. and the ignition timing hasnt been changed unless i did something when i took the cap off while i installed a new clutch but it just started doin it and ive drove it a thousand miles since the new clutch and the plugs, wires, and distributer i think are pretty new. i havent changed em but the recent owner was suppose to have swaped all plugs and wires.

 

Check for CEL codes and then inspect the plugs, cap, and rotor. Measuring the resistance of the wires would also be a good idea.

You also should check the ignition and mechanical timing.

 

well i was told it may be a old dirty fuel filter. replaced it and it still does it. its still yet only doing it when i started it cold. if i shut it off and back on after its warm it usually stops first try. i also looked for the led and didnt find it. ill have to print the diagram and look further into it. dont have time right now but ill keep posted!
