This has not been my understanding for the 5th generation Civic. In multiple threads, owners have mentioned the need to replace the entire lock assembly when the switch is bad. This is supported by my post taken from the 5th generation service manual. In contrast, the 6th generation service manual has a separate section for replacement of the plastic ignition switch alone. I will attempt to confirm this on the Majestic Honda site.

Majestic also doesn't sell the switch alone, only the entire lock assembly (see 002) at link below:

Yeah, go check it out.

This doesn't exist in the 5th generation service manual:

Yes, but can you purchase just the electrical switch (not on Majestic Honda), and do you have to remove the entire steering lock mechanism to replace? I posted a similar test diagram for the electrical switch, but there's no instruction in the 5th generation manual for just replacing the electrical switch. But there is for the 6th generation Civics, and I am able to buy just the electrical switch at Majestic Honda.

autozones parts
for his civic it says they only sell complete ignition not just switch
but i'd say goto the junkyard and pull one cause this one is 229$
which dont make any sense because the one for auto is only 80$

Yeah, so the 5th generation manual doesn't tell you how to replace just the electrical switch because the switch alone cannot be purchased even though it can be removed from the lock assembly.
