I have tested the connections and found a loss of continuity on switch in 2 and 3 position but the one we wanted most , i found a loss of continuity between the batt and blacck/ white stripe

What Ohm scale? With the multimeter set to Ohms, then continuity would be indicated by a low Ohm value such as 1 Ohm or less. If this is your measurement, then there is continuity. Verify that you are making the right reading by touching the two meter probes together. What is the Ohm reading?

If this is correct, then you need to replace the ignition switch. As this job is not easy, make sure to triple check your Ohm/continuity measurements.
