94 Civic DX wont start when hot outside...
You'll need a small adjustable wrench to loosen the bolt holding securing the relay (it was too tight for me to get my socket driver in there)...like I mentioned earlier you might want to stuff something between the carpet and the side of the car so that you don't drop the bolt into oblivion like I did...I ended up having to take off that foot rest thing so that I could get my arm under the carpet to find the dropped bolt.
To separate the wire harness from the relay, you'll need to press a release tab and then work the harness out of the relay. This is probably easier to do with the relay bolted in. I did it after I unbolted the relay cause the release tab is on the back side (I didn't know about the release tab until I unbolted the relay).
Putting the relay back in is just the reverse of getting it out...you might want to use the 10mm socket trick I mentioned earlier (or maybe a better trick?) to make the bolt easier to handle...once you get the bolt started, just tighten it back up with the adjustable wrench and you're all done!
Good Luck!!! Let me know how you make out.

no problems with the car today and it got up to 95! the new relay did the trick...
seanperia, did you get yours installed today?
In looking around for a place to get OEM spark plugs (tried some Autolites today but the insulators were too fat for the spark plug boot) I found a auto parts website with good prices...rockauto.com
They have an aftermarket main relay for $39.79 and if you use the code "24456775153" before 8/16 you'll get an additional 5% off of that. Don't know how the quality of this part would compare to Honda's, though...

i replaced the Main Relay i paid $57 from honda and i was working on it in the rain today. i think this is the fixed because i forgot to mention that before the car was idling weird when its just sitting but now it idles just right. i guess i'll just wait and see when its hot outside to see if its starts. thanks again shoobie.
Had the same problem - intermittent starting when hot outside. Thought it was the ignition switch, igniters ...... The one thing I did not think of was the fuel pump relay ....
I have a 92 cx - relay was located drivers side under dash mounted to the chassis. It is about 2" cubed and id black or grey. Has a 1" in line connector mounted to it. Reomove the relay and open it up --- Inspection of the solder pads may reveal cold solder joints or cracks around the component leads.
Save 50 bucks and resolder all the leads .
I'm good for another 100k miles now.
This fix also worked on my '86 Nissan pick-up truck - the relay however was not found in the Haines Manual. If you can't solder - I'll solder it for 20 bucks

This sounds so similar to the same problem I had on my 1989 Honda Civic CRX Si that I feel compelled to mention it.
I too had the issue of the car not starting on hot days. The engine would turn over but not start. Having standard transmission, I could get the engine going by pushing the car and releasing the clutch. Then she ran fine.
No codes flashed from the computer box.
Apparently a safety device in fuel injected cars that shuts off the fuel in an accident. This device shuts off the fuel when it encounters the conditions of hot engine and no motion. Obviously this happens in an accident, but also the same when starting a car on a hot day with an engine not throughly cooled from its last drive. For my 1989 Honda Civic CRX Si, they do not connect this device to the computer, so its malfunction is difficult to figure out.
Further, for my car, this device did malfunction and would shut off the fuel on hot days when I tried to start my car. However, as soon as I got the car moving, I eliminated one of the fuel shut off conditions and I could jump start the car.
After replacing this device, I have no longer any issues with starting on hot days.

Check your Main Relay. You can search it on the forum here or Google "honda Civic MainRelay" it's a common thing with the older hondas. You'll find it just above your left foot under the dash. If you pull the cover off you'll notice breaks in the solder. Andwith the hot and cold weather those breaks contract and expand so you can have contact and no contact and thus fuel/ignition problems where the car runs sometimes but other times it won't. It's a100bone part at honda in Canada. Not sure what it costsin the South.
