Pump is definitely in the tank. No need to disassemble the dash to get the radio out. I used two butter knives before to unlock and remove it... Look up a radio din tool.

Guys, I put 2+2 together today after reading a message from one of the ebay sellers. He told me the computer is located in the floor on the passenger side in front of where his right foot would be, under the carpet. I haven't even gotten under there yet, but I have been having a serious leaking issue whenever it rains. A mechanic suggested to me it could be a sunroof drain that is stopped up, but the more it rains, the more wet the right side of the passenger carpet gets. Do you guys think the carpet getting wet has the potential to damage the ecm?

The sun roof drain usually presents it's leak into the trunk... though I suppose it could be leaking into there, but more likely you're leaking from under the hood. Can water damage the ECU? Sure. Now why are you asking on a forum and don't pull up the carpet and look? The ECU opens up with a screwdriver and you can see if there's any corrosion. Also check the connectors...

Well, I'm normally not where the car is and it's so friggin' hot here, I hate to even go outside in this ****! haha I was just expressing a thought, but would think something that important would be totally sealed against any moisture. I'm about as far from being a mechanic as a human being can get. If you want to know how to catch fish, travel the Philippines, have a healthy reef aquarium, play poker, or design habitat for whitetail deer, I'm the guy. I freely give advice to those who want to know what I know well and only ask for advice regarding things I want to know.

I will definitely try to get in there tomorrow now that I have the manual and a very basic idea of what I'm looking for. I'm not here just to ask questions. Whatever I discover to be the actual problems, I will describe what they are and what I had to do to fix them. I want to learn here, but I also want to make a record of what happened and what corrected the issues. Just hope that whatever I learn can help someone else sometime!

Wasn't trying to bash on you, just a friendly kick in the rear to go and look. The car you have is a perfect tool for learning mechanics ..just don't touch the rear lower control arm bolts, them things are not coming out without breaking. Ecu is sealed, but it's more weatherproof than waterproof.

on my 2000 i had alot of issues with water when i first got it due to bad seals on the door. there's 2 layers of door seals on these doors. an outer basic seal and the inner main seal thats supposed to keep water from coming inside the car. there is also the rubber wire loom between the door framing and the door itself. either of those could be causing water to come inside the car.

What did you do about the door seals? The car is half *** running now that it's been dry for a good while.... Lots of rain coming over the next few days though.

So, it looks like my su****ion was correct. The heavy leak on the passenger side that kept the carpet soaked for periods of time is the issue. I didn't drive the car for a while and now, for the past few weeks, the fuel pump runs perfectly and the blower motor works now and then. After talking to a local mechanic, he suggested that I spray starting fluid into the harnesses that may have been affected to disperse any water that remains. He said to let that dry, then cover the face of the harness with dielectric grease to keep it completely sealed for the future.

Has anyone ever done something like this to deal with moisture problems? Opinions?

Thanks!!

Dielectric grease - yes, starting fluid...maybe good advice, never done it that way, but he might know what he's suggesting better.
